چکیده

The Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method is used to calculate the cellular phone far and near field and the specific absorption rate (SAR) in the user’s head. The conventional λ/4 monopole and a simple planar antenna are simulated and measured. The simulated results are in good agreement with those measured for the VSWR and for the radiation patterns on the horizontal and vertical planes. These results show that significant improvements in the antenna radiation efficiency and in the reduction of the SAR in the head are obtained when planar antennas are used. 1

A Comprehensive Study of Resistor-Loaded Planar Dipole Antennas for Ground Penetrating Radar Applications

iii Abstract Ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems are increasingly being used for the detection and location of buried objects within the upper regions of the earth’s surface. The antenna is the most critical component of such a system. This thesis presents a comprehensive study of resistor-loaded planar dipole antennas for GPR applications using both theory and experiments. The theoretical a...

FDTD Analysis of Top-Hat Monopole Antennas Loaded with Radially Layered Dielectric

Top-hat monopole antennas loaded with radially layered dielectric are analyzed using the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. Unlike the mode-matching method (MMM) (which was previously used for analyzing these antennas) the FDTD method enables us to study such structures accurately and easily. Using this method, results can be obtained in a wide frequency band by performing only one ti...

On Modeling and Personal Dosimetry of Cellular Telephone Helical Antennas with the FDTD Code - Antennas and Propagation, IEEE Transactions on

In this paper, a novel method to model helical antennas working in the normal mode, as well as helix-monopole antennas with finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) code is presented. This method is particularly useful to model antennas used for personal wireless communication handsets, where the fairly small dimensions of the helical antennas with respect to wavelength and the grid cell size do no...

Complementary Periodic Structures for Miniaturization of Planar Antennas

In this paper various layered planar periodic structures which provide miniaturization of planar antennas are proposed and discussed. The proposed designs are based on two concepts, reactive impedance surfaces and complementary periodic structures. In the proposed structures, complementary periodic rings and slots are patterned on the intermediate boundaries of the dielectric layers. A patch an...

Comparison of FDTD Computed and Measured Radiation Patterns of Commercial Mobile Telephones in Presence of the Human Head

In this letter, finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) computed radiation patterns of mobile telephones are carefully compared with those measured in our laboratory. The question on the capability of the FDTD method to correctly predict the radiated electromagnetic fields of today’s structurally complex mobile telephones is addressed. Two commercially available cellular telephones equipped with t...
